Vacancy – Data Engineer

Job Opening

Data Engineer

We are currently looking for a savvy Data Engineer/Scientist to join our growing team. The Data Engineer will support our software developers, database architects and data analysts on data initiatives and ensure optimal and consistent data delivery architecture throughout ongoing projects.

What you’ll do:

  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL, MongoDB and AWS “big data” technologies.
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Keep our data separated and secure across national boundaries through multiple data centers and AWS regions.
  • Create data tools for analytics and data science team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader.
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.

About you:

  • You are a self-starter and self-directed – you are comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.
  • You are a problem solver – you do not just report a problem. You analyze the situation, consider alternatives, and come up with suggestions where possible.
  • You are a team player – the work of others is not only their concern, just as your work is not only yours.
  • You love computer science and you like to learn new things.
  • You communicate timely – you discuss issues with teammates, and you escalate as soon as possible.
  • You are willing, polite, and smile as often as possible. You expect similar behavior from others as well.

Required skills:

At least 3 years of prior experience in data engineering and a successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.

Essential skills:

  • Expert at working with SQL and NoSQL (especially MongoDB) databases
  • Extensive experience at building and optimizing “big data” pipelines, architectures and data sets
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Strong analytical skills related to working with unstructured datasets
  • Knowledge of building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
  • Fulfilled military obligations (for male candidates)
  • Excellent command of English and Greek languages

Nice-to-have skills:

  • Experience using the following software/tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with the AWS ecosystem
  • Knowledge of stream-processing with Storm, Spark-Streaming etc
  • BI/Data Analytics tools and techniques: SAS, Tableau, YellowFin, etc.
  • Scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.

What we offer:

  • An opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, in an international, multicultural environment, alongside high-caliber IT professionals from the US and Greece, on the latest web technologies with contemporary tools
  • Competitive salary with full social security (IKA)
  • Remote work & flexible hours
  • Continuous vocational training in the field of work with a perspective of development
  • Pleasant working environment & team mechanics
